The Combination Forms of Angular Contact Ball Bearings

Today, I, the editor, will share some information about the combination forms of angular contact ball bearings to help you have a better understanding of them.

The main combination forms of angular contact ball bearings are as follows:
  1. Back-to-back Configuration (DB Combination)
    • Characteristics: The wide end faces of the two bearings are installed opposite to each other, and the contact angle lines spread in the direction of the rotation axis.
    • Advantages: It can bear axial loads acting in both directions, has strong anti-deformation ability, provides a bearing configuration with relatively high rigidity, and can withstand overturning moments.
    • Application Scenarios: It is often used in situations where bidirectional axial loads and relatively large overturning moments need to be borne.
  2. Face-to-face Configuration (DF Combination)
    • Characteristics: The narrow end faces of the two bearings are installed opposite to each other, and the contact angle lines converge towards the direction of the rotation axis.
    • Advantages: It has relatively small load-bearing rigidity, can increase the preload of the bearing, and suppress the increase of internal load caused by installation inclination and other factors.
    • Application Scenarios: It is suitable for situations where the accuracy of the bearing seat is not high or the rigidity of the shaft is relatively small.
  3. Tandem Configuration (DT Combination)
    • Characteristics: The contact angle lines of the two bearings are parallel, and the radial and axial loads are evenly shared by the bearings.
    • Advantages: It can bear the working load in the same direction, and is usually used in situations where a one-way axial load needs to be borne.
    • Application Scenarios: In order to balance and limit the axial stability, two pairs of bearings arranged in tandem will be symmetrically installed at both ends of the shaft.
  4. Triple Configuration
    • Characteristics: Three bearings are installed in combination.
    • Advantages: It can bear radial loads and two axial loads.
    • Limitations: The load distribution of the bearings is uneven, and the bearings may be damaged during high-speed rotation. Therefore, it is not suitable for high-speed rotation scenarios.
  5. Quadruple Configuration
    • Characteristics: Four bearings are installed in combination.
    • Advantages: It can bear radial loads and axial loads in both directions. Under the same internal clearance condition, its preload and rigidity are twice those of the paired configuration, and it can bear a relatively large ultimate axial load.
    • Application Scenarios: It is suitable for situations where a relatively large axial load and high rigidity are required.
  6. Universal Configuration
    • Characteristics: By grinding the non-base surfaces of the inner and outer rings, the dimensional tolerances of the final ground planes are strictly controlled to make the widths of the inner and outer rings equal.
    • Advantages: When installed on a precision machine tool, the required preload can be obtained without a complicated adjustment process.
    • Application Scenarios: It is suitable for precision mechanical systems with specific requirements for the preload of the bearings.
The combination forms of angular contact ball bearings are quite diverse. Selecting the appropriate combination form of angular contact ball bearings can match the load characteristics, improve the rotational accuracy and stability, adapt to different working conditions and environments, optimize the performance and cost of the equipment, ensure the reliable operation of the bearing system, extend the service life, and meet the requirements of the mechanical system for high precision and high stability.
